PET Reading Practice Test 2

Part 2

Questions 6-10
The people below all want to find a course or workshop to join.
On the opposite page there are descriptions of eight courses.
Decide which course would be the most suitable for each person.

Question 1 image

6 Anton is a complete beginner at painting. He works Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., so he can only attend evening sessions. He doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on materials upfront and would prefer a course where equipment is included in the price.

Question 1 image

7 Sofia is a university student studying photography. She is already quite skilled and wants to learn a very specific technique: how to take good pictures in low light without using a flash. She has a limited budget and needs a course that offers a student discount.

Question 1 image

8 Colton wants to find a weekend activity he can do with his eight-year-old daughter. He is not artistic himself, so he needs something structured where an instructor guides them step by step. He would like to take home whatever they make during the session.

Question 1 image

9 Margot is retired and has a lot of free time during the week. Years ago she enjoyed making things with her hands, and now she wants to take up a creative hobby again. She feels a bit rusty and would prefer a relaxed, social atmosphere where she can work at her own speed rather than following a strict lesson plan.

Question 1 image

10 Leo is looking for a short, intensive course he can complete in just one day. He wants to learn a practical skill he can use immediately, preferably something related to home decoration. He is happy to pay more for individual attention from the teacher.

A. Watercolour for Beginners
A six-week course held every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. No previous experience needed. All paints, brushes, and paper are provided. Just bring yourself. £85 for the full course.

B. Pottery Open Studio
Join our friendly community of pottery lovers. Sessions run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. An experienced potter is available to give advice if you ask, but there is no formal teaching. Suitable for those with some previous experience who want to practise independently. £12 per session, pay as you go. Clay and glazes available to buy on site.

C. Parent and Child Craft Morning
Every Saturday, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Designed for children aged 5–10 and their grown-ups. Each week we make a different project—from painted plant pots to simple wooden toys. All materials included. The instructor demonstrates each step clearly, so no artistic ability is required. £18 per pair, per session.

D. Night Photography Workshop
A one-day intensive course for intermediate photographers. Learn to capture city scenes after dark without using flash. Saturday 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. (includes evening practical session). Bring your own camera and tripod. £95. Please note: no discounts are available for this specialist workshop.

E. One-Day Furniture Painting Masterclass
Transform an old piece of furniture in just one day. This course runs on occasional Sundays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Because of the detailed nature of the work, class sizes are kept very small (maximum 4 students). You’ll learn sanding, priming, and decorative finishing techniques. All paint and equipment provided. £120, including a light lunch.

F. Digital Photography: Low Light Skills
A four-week online course focusing specifically on night photography and indoor shooting without flash. The course is self-paced, with new video lessons released each Monday. Access to an online community forum for feedback on your work. £60 standard / £45 for students with valid ID.

G. Saturday Art Club for Kids
Drop your 7–12 year olds off for two hours of creative fun while you do the shopping. Our qualified art teachers lead structured activities including painting, collage, and clay modelling. Runs every Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. £15 per child, per session. Parents do not stay.

H. Introduction to Oil Painting
A weekend workshop for absolute beginners, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. You will complete one small canvas to take home. A list of required materials is sent after booking; you will need to buy your own brushes and paints (approximately £30–40). Course fee: £110.
