PET Reading Practice Test 1

Part 5

Questions 21-26
For each question, choose the correct answer.

Last weekend, my school organised a trip to a local farm. I wasn’t very excited about it at first because I’ve never 21 much interest in animals. I grew up in a flat in the city centre, so the countryside feels like a foreign country to me.

We arrived at about ten in the morning. The farmer, a friendly woman 22 Mrs Evans, met us at the gate. She explained that we would spend the morning helping with some of the daily jobs. My group was asked to collect eggs from the chicken house. It sounded simple, but the chickens clearly didn’t want to 23 up their eggs without a fight. One of them pecked my finger, which made everyone laugh except me.

After lunch, we went to see the lambs. They were only a few weeks old and 24 very noisy. Mrs Evans let us feed them with bottles of milk. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There was one small lamb that kept coming back to me for more. Mrs Evans said that animals can 25 when someone is a bit nervous, and they try to make that person feel comfortable.

On the bus home, I realised that I had actually had a good day. I’m not saying I want to become a farmer, but I’ve decided that I 26 animals’ company more than I thought I did.
